Swindon Borough Council has shared hopes that the Wootton Bassett Road closure won't continue for much longer.

In an update on situation, provided by the local authority, it was confirmed that a necessary pipe repair is being carried out on Tuesday, March 19, following a burst water main.

The closure has caused heavy traffic in the area, on Great Western Way, Wichelstowe, West Leaze and on Wootton Bassett Road itself.

Delays on Great Western Way eastbound of nine minutes have been reported with an average speed of five miles per hour.

Two sets of works are being carried out by Thames Water, causing Wootton Bassett Road to be closed in both directions on Monday, March 18.

The closure spans between Penzance Drive and Redpost Drive.

One lot of works by Mannington Roundabout are planned repair and maintenance works on clean water pipes.

And a second lot of work by Redposts Drive are to repair a leak on a clean water pipe.

Works could go on as late as March 22 at Mannington Roundabout, and March 20 further along the road.

Meanwhile, Mead Way has reopened following a separate burst pipe incident, which caused heavy flooding of the The Meads roundabout.
