Food outlets have a number of pressing matters to contend with.
For one, they have to make sure they balance the books financially. Two, they must keep their customers happy with the grub they provide.
And three, hygiene is of the utmost importance in regards to a business's long-term future.
So, here is a round-up of how a handful of takeaways and places that sell food have fared when inspected by the Food Standards Agency in 2024 in the Swindon area.
1) The Arkell's Strawberry Thief - 5*
This pub in Tadpole Garden Village scored a maximum five-star rating after being inspected on February 7, 2024.
It received 'very good' scores for hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.
2) Supreme Doner Kebab - 2*
This kebab shop on Bridge Street did not fare so well, however. Following the inspection of February 1, 2024, this establishment received a two out of five rating, with an 'improvement necessary' score.
While its cleanliness and management of food safety got 'generally satisfactory' grades, its hygienic handling of food - including preparation, re-heating, cooling, and storage - requires improvement.
Supreme Doner Kebab declined to comment when asked about this rating.
3) Moon Star Chinese - 3*
This Chinese takeaway on Rodbourne Road received a three-star rating and a 'generally satisfactory' mark following its inspection on January 22, 2024.
It received that feedback for its hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.
4) Dolphin Fishbar - 5*
This fish and chips takeaway on Swindon Street, Highworth, received top marks following its inspection on January 31, 2024.
While its hygienic food handling was rated as 'very good', the cleanliness and management of food safety were scored as 'good'.
5) Caprinos Pizza - 3*
This pizzeria on Cricklade Road, Gorse Hill, got a 'generally satisfactory' rating following its inspection on January 17, 2024.
It received that score across the board for hygienic food handling, cleanliness, and management of food safety.
