A recently opened fish and chip shop in Swindon hopes it can be the best in the town.
Best Fish and Chips at 25 Victoria Road opened last Friday and will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Swindon’s mayor, councillor Barbara Parry.
Swindon is already home to at least 26 chippies, but owner Musa Ongoren thinks his attitude could make his fish suppers the best.
He said: “I am quite confident with myself because I have been in the food industry for 17 years.
“It's not just about business, it is actually about being friends at the same time.”
Musa says he will cook people’s food fresh to their preference and is very open to feedback from customers.
He continued: “I like to talk to the kids, see how they are getting on, and be friends with them because they do not really want to be kept waiting.”
Musa’s favourite order is cod and chips with curry sauce, and mushy peas for dipping his fish.
Musa already owns the neighbouring kebab restaurant and was quick to snap up the next door chippie before anyone else did.
Kings Best Barbecue is rated 4.2 stars on Google and was given a positive review by Adver’s Michelle Tompkins back in 2014.
Since then he has been hard at work studying how to make the best fish and chips.
He said: “I am feeling stressed actually, because there is a lot to be done to make it different from other fish and chip places.”
Also on offer will be Turkish pizzas and breakfasts, which Musa says the mayor is ‘very excited’ about as they currently have to travel to Cardiff for this meal.
There are currently already more than 26 fish and chip shops in Swindon, although the record is Scarborough with at least 67 fryers according to Hertz.
The Adver recently ranked Swindon’s joints to find the best with the soon-to-be-changing-hands Phillip's in Gorse Hill and Lucy's Fish Bar on Penhill Drive among the highly rated places.
Time will tell where the latest addition will stand in this ranking, but Musa will be hoping that his new venue can join them in the future.
The ribbon cutting will take place on April 11, 9am at Best Fish and Chips, 25 Victoria Rd, Swindon SN1 3AW.
