A driver who sat in the middle lane of the empty M4 and refused to move has had their car seized by Wiltshire Police.
Officers from Wiltshire Police's Road Policing Unit were out monitoring the roads in the early hours of Thursday morning (April 4) when they came across one driver cruising down the middle lane.
The silver vehicle was first spotted near Membury service station on the M4 at 1.30am and officers say that the motorway was completely empty, but the driver did not move from the middle lane.
According to Rule 264 of the Highway Code, driving in the middle lane if you are not overtaking or providing more space for other drivers is considered poor driving behaviour and is illegal.
The car was followed by police from Membury all the way to Junction 15 at Swindon before officers decided to pull the driver over to discuss their driving style.
But when the Road Policing Unit did a check of the car details, they discovered that the driver was on the road with no insurance, and the vehicle was quickly seized.
"We thought we should chat with the driver and sure enough, driving other than in accordance and no insurance. Car seized," said a spokesperson for the policing team.
