A family's attempts to get their late loved one home have finally come to fruition thanks to generous donations.
Mandy Haigh, 54, lived in Swindon before retiring to Cyprus with her partner Brian but was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer last year.
Mandy wanted to return to the UK to spend time with her children and grandchildren but had become too ill to do so via conventional means, prompting her loved ones to start a fundraising campaign for a private air ambulance to bring her back.
But before the required amount could be raised, Mandy died on March 17.
Now her daughter, Sian Jelliman has confirmed that the £10,415 raised has successfully helped to get Mandy home, and she will soon be laid to rest at the North Wiltshire Crematorium.
After closing down the fundraising page, Sian thanked everyone for the kindness they displayed, revealing that Mandy had been flown back to the UK on March 27.
"Today, Mum will be taking her final journey home," she said.
"There are no words to express how grateful we are for the support we have been shown. Donations, messages of love about Mum, messages of support, people going above and beyond to help in many other ways. It's been appreciated more than you will ever know.
"Thanks to your generosity, we can get Mum back to be laid to rest among family and give her the send-off she deserves. Nothing but the best for such an incredible person.
"We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts."
Mandy's funeral will be taking place Tuesday, April 16, at 11am, and Sian has said that anyone is welcome to attend and pay their respects.
"We want to send an open invitation to anyone that would like to join us as we honour the memory of our dearest, Mandy
"The service will be held at North Wiltshire Crematorium, with a wake at Lydiard House Hotel afterwards.
"Dress is smart but we invite you to wear whatever colours you feel comfortable in. It does not need to be black.
"Mum loved pastel pinks and purples. Any pastel colour she loved really. So if you fancy wearing some colour, maybe some pastels will be a nice way to go."
And for those unable to attend in person, the funeral will be broadcasted to view online.
