Police were called to the Transfer Bridges in Swindon after reports of an assault.
The attack is believed to have taken place on Monday, April 8, at roughly 10.20pm.
Officers blocked off the footpath between Station Road and Great Western Way, which passes underneath the railway bridge, and put a crime scene in place.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that a man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm, but added that he was later released with no further action.
It is not known whether the victim suffered any injuries.
