Recent police checks show speeding is happening all across Swindon.
Wiltshire Police conducted a speeding check on Swindon Road recently and was shocked to discover that 35 drivers broke the law in that time.
One of the motorists behind the wheel of the offending cars was clocked travelling at 52mph on the A361 which has a 30mph limit.
A spokesperson said: "With all the tailbacks into Highworth at the moment you’d think it would be hard to speed – and yet 35 drivers managed to break the 30mph limit yesterday when the speed enforcement camera was on the A361 Swindon Road.
"One of them was travelling at 52mph – which we doubt got them through the traffic jams and lights any quicker!"
Further speeding checks were carried out elsewhere, with officers revealing that one driver on Thamesdown Drive reached heights of 62mph on that road, which has a 40mph limit.
Blunsdon, Wroughton, Bishopstone and Hinton Parva were also targeted.
"All the motorists will either have to pay for a speed awareness course, or face three points and a £100 fine – though the fastest are likely to have to appear in court," the police spokesperson added.
