Police have seized several vehicles during a major operation targeting uninsured drivers on the M4 in Wiltshire.
Roads Policing Units from Wiltshire Police took part in a regional crackdown, alongside four other police forces and the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), on Thursday, April 11.
The initiative saw officers target uninsured drivers and seize their vehicles across a 170-mile stretch of the motorway, from London to Swansea.
Offenders were caught using multiple tactics, including ANPR cameras and police intelligence.
In Wiltshire, 12 drivers around the M4 corridor were snared by police and dealt with for having no insurance, and for other associated offences.
Vehicles were then seized by recovery trucks.
MIB is currently exploring future collaborative operations on other major UK road networks as part of a £5 million investment to reduce uninsured driving.
Head of enforcement Martin Saunders said: “Whilst we work with the police throughout the year, supporting forces in designating time to focus on uninsured driving allows this issue to be tackled head-on in a targeted way.
“We know the benefits will be widely felt across all different areas of the force and the community, making the M4 and surrounding areas safer.”
