The A419 is closed near Swindon and will remain shut to motorists for over a day.
The southbound carriageway of the major A-road was closed by National Highways for maintenance between Cricklade and Spine Road, near Cerney Wick, at 1am on Saturday, April 13.
Drivers have been warned that the route will be inaccessible at all times until 7am on Sunday, April 14, according to the council’s roadworks map.
Motorists will need to seek alternative routes throughout Saturday and on Sunday morning, with the lengthy official diversion route taking them through Ashton Keynes, Leigh, and Cricklade.
During the time the carriageway will be closed, National Highways engineers will be carrying out structural maintenance to the key road.
This comes as part of a spate of works to that stretch of the A419.
Lane two of the A-road’s northbound carriageway was also shut at Cricklade between 8pm on Friday, April 12, and 11am on Saturday, April 13.
This closure was in place so that bridge joint works could take place.
