A Swindon town centre hotel has closed and will remain shut to customers for almost a week.
Premier Inn’s town centre location, on Regent Street, closed its doors at midday on Sunday, April 14, after its guests had checked out of their rooms.
The hotel will remain shut until 3pm on Friday, April 19, when the temporary closure is due to come to an end.
A notice on the building warning the public of the situation did not give a reason for the business shutting its doors.
This sparked speculation on social media, with some Facebook users claiming that filming for a new Premier Inn TV advert would be taking place at the branch.
But staff at the hotel told the Adver that the closure was “nothing too exciting” and that training would be taking place during the week.
The £17 million hotel first opened in October last year after 19 months of construction works.
It boasts 195 bedrooms across five storeys and at the time of opening it was estimated the accommodation would boost the town centre economy by driving an average of £3 million in guest spending annually.
Premier Inn’s other Swindon locations at Kembrey Business Park, Lydiard Fields Business Park, and near the Blunsdon Bypass, remain open.
