Wiltshire Police have stopped and punished the drivers of two defective Mercedes Benz cars.
The first was spotted in Melksham with illegal window tints and defective tyres
The windows were 53 per cent over the legal tint limit of 70 per cent, and pictures show the tyres with worn-out treads.
The driver was reported and ‘paperwork issued’, with Wiltshire Specials posting on X: “Mercedes Benz spotted in Melksham with dark window tints the legal limit being 70%!
“This also led to finding defective tyres. Not a good day for this driver, paperwork issued, driver reported, and off to get new tyres fitted.”
The second Mercedes Benz was stopped in Chippenham with the ‘driver looking a little confused’.
The driver had no license or insurance and they were reported with their car seized.
Wiltshire Specials added ‘#LongWalkHome’.
What is the law on window tints?
According to the GOV.UK website, for vehicles first used on 1 April 1985 or later the front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.
For vehicles first used before 1 April 1985 the front windscreen and front side windows must both let at least 70% of light through.
There are no rules for tinting the rear windscreen or rear passenger windows.
