Wiltshire Police have identified the body discovered in a Swindon lagoon as being a local teenage boy.
Officers attended the Raychem Lagoon between Rodbourne and Cheney Manor Industrial Estate on Saturday afternoon (April 20) following the discovery of a body in the water.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the person was declared dead at the scene.
Officers at the time confirmed that the body belonged to a male, and was discovered while conducting a missing person investigation for a different individual in Swindon.
But two days on from the discovery, Wiltshire Police have now confirmed to the Adver that the male body belonged to a 17-year-old local boy.
“While conducting a missing person investigation in Swindon, officers in conjunction with our emergency services partners located a body in a lagoon near Cheney Manor Industrial Estate," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
“Although it is still early stages of our investigation, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances and no risk to the public.
“The person’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
“We would ask for people not to speculate on the circumstances of the incident and please avoid the area to allow for enquiries to be carried out.”
