A short police chase through Swindon in the early hours ended with a crash and an arrest.
Officers responded to reports of an attempted vehicle theft in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Westlea.
At 3.15am, they received a description of two people dressed in balaclavas who were making their way down a footpath leading to Ashington Way.
Police spotted a vehicle trying to leave the Asda car park and, when they tried to stop it, the car drove off towards Ashington Way and travelled at speed towards a police vehicle that had its emergency lights on.
Roads Policing Unit officers helped the Swindon police teams find the vehicle in question.
After what they described as "a brief pursuit" along Westlea Road and Mannington Lane, the Volkswagen they were following crashed into fencing and the people inside it got out.
Officers then arrested a woman in her 30s on suspicion of several offences: attempted theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance and driving while unfit through drugs.
She remains in custody for questioning.
