A popular all-you-can-eat restaurant in Swindon has received a poor food hygiene rating.
During an inspection on April 4, Hongxin Oriental Buffet in West Swindon was ordered to make 'urgent improvements' and given a zero-star food hygiene rating.
But the site's bosses say they understand where they went wrong and have already fixed the issues ahead of an upcoming reinspection.
The eatery which is inside a unique building in Peatmoor was given the rating this month, but the Food Standards Agency page for it doesn't explain why it received zero stars.
Usually, there is a brief explanation of the restaurant's failings, which can include hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety presented in what is called a 'map'.
It will then say whether improvement or major improvement is necessary for each of these fields.
But on the Hongxin page, it says that the 'map is not available'.
One of the restaurant's managers acknowledged the zero-star rating but told the Adver they had already made improvements.
They said that their Safer Food Better Business log had some allergen sheets which were not up to date for modern standards, which was picked up by the environmental health officer.
“Following the inspection, we have trained our staff and are making sure we improve our logs to meet today’s standards," they said.
They added that a reinspection is due to take place on April 30 which should see a vastly improved rating.
Hongxin was once Europe's largest Chinese restaurant and was formerly known as Pagoda Palace.
In December the venue applied for planning permission to install a car wash in its car park.
As part of the plan, two canopies will be put up, one for washing the cars and one for drying them.
Given the scheme would only remove three parking spaces from use, and planners felt the car wash would mostly be used by people meeting at the restaurant, the scheme was approved.
If you wish to see the food safety officer’s report on which this rating is based, you can request this from the local authority that carried out the inspection, which is Swindon Borough Council.
You can do this by sending an email to foodhealth&safety@swindon.gov.uk
The local authority will consider requests and will usually send a copy of the report.
In some cases, the local authority may decide that they cannot do so but will let people know this and explain why.
