There are signs that a new restaurant could be coming to Swindon town centre.
The Stax and Snax takeaway and restaurant on Regent Street closed in January this year having only opened in June 2023.
The building was put up for lease in the same month but has remained empty and unused since.
But now a licence application posted on the outside of the ill-fated former eatery has revealed what might be in store for its future.
It said: "An application has been made to the licensing authority for Swindon for the grant of a premises license by The Biryani Lounge Ltd in respect of A3 restaurant at 21-22 Regent Street, Swindon, SN1 1JL."
The application seeks to allow the sale of alcohol on Monday to Sunday from 9am to 11pm.
The premises supervisor is listed as a Mr Bhunuchandar Pathakamuri.
The Biryani Lounge appears to be a Reading-based company located on Wokingham Road.
It describes itself as a 'unique sensory experience'.
A blurb on its website says: "With our mouthwatering meals and super fast restaurant and takeaway service, we intend to create magic for all our customers.
"We assure you that every single member of our staff will give you the finest food experience which will undoubtedly entice you to come back for more.
"We are committed to providing you with the best culinary experience and also keep maintaining the highest hygiene standards."
It adds: "We are aware of the constant increase in the cost of living and we want our clients to be able to enjoy our great food, which is why we have made sure our prices are not overwhelming!
"We guarantee that eating from our menu will satisfy your appetite without breaking the bank."
The full application can be inspected via the council's online planning and licensing portal, or by visiting the council offices at Wat Tyler West Floor, Beckhampton Street, Swindon, SN1 2JH, between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
Responsible authorities and people and businesses in the area can make representations to the council about this licence any time between April 26 and May 23.
All representations must be made in writing (including e-mail or fax) to the licensing manager at the above address, or by email to licensing@swindon.gov.uk
It is an offence to knowingly or recklessly make a false statement in connection with an application.
