People living in Broadgreen are being invited to attend the latest in a series of community engagement events.

Swindon Borough Council has been working with other local agencies, including Wiltshire Police, to understand what residents think about their local neighbourhood and any issues or concerns they have about living there.

In March more than 200 people attended a community engagement day organised by Swindon Community Safety Partnership (CSP), to speak to local organisations about what they like about Broadgreen and what they would like to see improved.

A subsequent week of action in the area was carried out to tackle anti-social behaviour, dangerous driving and drugs offences with a number of arrests, fines and vehicle seizures taking place. Local agencies have continued to have an active presence in the area to support the community.

Recognising the community’s request for a cleaner environment, a community clean-up day has been organised for Saturday, June 29 between 10am and noon and Swindon CSP is inviting any residents who would like to get involved to attend a meeting next Monday (May 20) to discuss plans for the day and become involved in the creation of a new residents’ group to represent the area.

Representatives from Wiltshire Police, the Office of Wiltshire and Swindon Police Crime Commissioner and South Swindon Parish Council will also be in attendance.

Councillor Jim Grant, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for communities and joint working, said: “There has been a great response from partners in tackling various issues within Broadgreen over the past few months and it has been really positive to see the pride that local people have in their neighbourhood from the community events we have held so far.

“We want to build on that engagement and work with local residents to brighten up the neighbourhood and foster that community spirit that is so evident in the local area. The clean-up day is the first of what we hope will be a number of initiatives in Broadgreen and we’d love as many people as possible to take part.

“This focus on Broadgreen provides a genuine opportunity for the community to take a lead in improving the environment and building their thriving community. I hope there is continued interest and that a number of people attend the meeting on May 20.”

Swindon hub commander, Superintendent Guy Elkins, said: “These events are a great opportunity for the local community to get involved and help to build a better Broadgreen.

“Over the last few months, we have been working with our partners to address issues within the community and engagement with local residents is absolutely vital in order for us to build a full picture of the challenges and priorities in the area.

“If you can, please come along on Monday, as a local resident your views are greatly valued. This is your community and so we need your input to improve your area.”

Anyone who would like to find out more about the clean-up day and the activities taking place in the area is welcome to attend the community meeting on Monday (May 20) at Broadgreen Community Centre from 5pm.
