A yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for large parts of Wiltshire with disruption expected.
Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to bring heavy rain or hail across the county, with Trowbridge, Salisbury, Chippenham, Calne, and Devizes among the locations due to be affected.
A yellow weather warning was issued at 1pm on Thursday, May 16, and will remain in place until 8pm.
The poor weather is forecast to hit the county during the evening.
The Met Office has warned residents there is a “good chance” that driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and hail, leading to longer journey times.
A warning has also been issued over the potential for lightning strikes, with the Met Office adding that there will “probably” be some damage to a few buildings or structures.
Short term power loss and delays to public transport are also possible.
National Highways has issued advice for motorists travelling during the evening, urging people to drive slowly and to the conditions.
A spokesperson said: “Using the roads this afternoon into this evening?
“Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected which could lead to travel disruption.
“Wet weather makes it harder for tyres to grip and for drivers to see ahead.”
