A much-loved fish and chip shop once crowned Swindon’s best could reopen under new management in two weeks.
Phillip’s on Cricklade Road, Gorse Hill closed in April after the owners stepped down to "enjoy their lives and start new adventures".
But it was promised that the shop would stay a fish and chip shop under new management.
The new shop is to be called Xana’s, owned by Joao De Freitas Franca, who hopes to welcome customers in two weeks.
The old shop is in the process of being ripped out, with the Phillip’s sign being removed and the interior covered in dust sheets.
Previously a blue ‘Xana’s Fish Bar’ sign was covering the white and red of the Phillip’s sign, the first hint of the shop’s reincarnation.
The wife of the owner said the shop was named after their daughter. She said she was feeling the pressure of replacing the venerable institution.
The previous owners, Robin and Donna, used to work at Frying Fish in Drove Road, being voted best in the west by the West Country Cooking Awards.
Son Joe said: “I would also like to say well done to both of my parents for the hard work and dedication they’ve put into always selling delicious food at an affordable price and making sure every customer leaves with a smile.”
