A dangerous driver who sped along Queens Drive at more than 100mph and caused £13,000 in damage to police cars has been jailed.

Daniel Usher, formerly of Ermin Street in Swindon, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance and possession of a knife blade in a public place.

The 45-year-old has been sent behind bars for 26 months, banned from driving for four years and one month, and ordered to pay £13,650.24 in compensation following his sentencing at a Swindon Crown Court hearing held in Cirencester last Thursday.

Officers in Eldene switched on their lights and sirens to stop Usher's Audi S3 on January 31.

The motorist reached speeds of more than 100mph on Queens Drive and raced through residential areas, ignoring the 20mph speed limit on these housing estates.

Officers sustained damage to their police cars when they successfully stopped Usher, then they found two kitchen knives inside the vehicle.

PC Luke Hobbs said: “Usher’s standard of driving was totally unacceptable and incredibly dangerous, especially considering this was through a very densely populated residential area.

"He showed no regard for other road users whatsoever and in doing so, put other's lives in danger.

“I am really pleased with the sentence he has been given – it is a reflection of the seriousness of his actions.”
