Thames Water has issued an update on its repair effort after a burst water main flooded Thamesdown Drive.
Gallons of water poured along the busy dual carriageway after a pipe under the Elstree Way junction ruptured the road surface above it and created a large hole in the asphalt at around 3.30pm on Thursday.
Police closed off a large section of the road near the Toby Carvery and Blunsdon Arms while the utility company did its best to stop the deluge.
As of 7pm, the road was cleared and traffic had returned to normal.
A Thames Water spokesperson said: "We’re aware of the disruptions on Thamesdown Drive, Swindon, caused by a burst water mains pipe.
"Everyone's water supply that was impacted by the burst pipe should now find their water is back on.
"If you’ve checked our further information and are still experiencing problems, please contact us.
"Our team is on-site and has started on the repairs.
"This is expected to take some time and at this stage, we can’t commit to how long the repair will take.
"We will provide an update in due course.
"We are sorry for any disruptions caused to local residents and motorists during this time, and appreciate your patience whilst we resolve this."
