Huge crowds gathered at a river in Swindon to watch hundreds of plastic ducks race their way to the finish line.

The town’s famous duck race returned to Westcott Recreation Park on Wootton Bassett Road on May 27 for a fun-filled day of music, games and of course – ducks.

Members of the public spent their bank holiday trying out the event’s funfair rides, craft stalls, children's activities, and refreshments while even the local dogs got involved by strutting their stuff in the dog show.

Of course, no one could miss the JCB full to the brim with hundreds of yellow plastic ducks which all stood proudly on the recreation ground before being launched into the river for the main event.

The plastic ducks plunged head-first into the river before passing The Runner, heading under the main road and then floating along the final stretch while crowds cheered on their chosen duck.

The lucky person who picked the winning duck walked away with a huge £1,000 prize and the six runners-up that followed each received £100 each in prizes.

Despite the alarming sea of yellow which completely took over the river, organisers ensured that no plastic pollution was left behind and each duck was collected by volunteers at the end.

The event was supported by Nationwide, and organised by the Old Town Rotary Club.
