Roadworks on a bridge over the M4 that connects Old Town and Wichelstowe to Wroughton have been extended.

The Croft Road A4361 entrance to Wroughton that goes over the M4 Motorway has seen concrete barriers reducing the available lanes, and fencing added to the side of the bridge itself, by National Highways.

A Public Notice for the work said: "This Order is being introduced for National Highways Safety Scheme and will impose a closure of the footway, the carriageway reduced to one lane and a 30mph speed restriction on the Croft Road between Woodland View and B4006 Junctions."

National Highways started this work in January 2023, with it expected to last 18 months until June this year.

However, signage at the location has been changed, informing motorists and locals in the area that the current barriers, cones and fencing will remain until at least December this year.

The sign warns that delays will be possible.

It was initially closed overnight in January 23 for five days, for what National Highways described as 'emergency parapet works' before the ongoing work started.

At the time, a National Highways spokesperson said: "Please accept our apologies in advance for any disruption this may cause. We'll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and the travelling public is kept to a minimum."
