Eight bungalows are set to be built in Moredon to support people with disabilities or those requiring live-in care.
The two-bedroom semi-detached properties are being built in Ventnor Close on an unused plot owned by Swindon Borough Council.
Councillor Janine Howarth, cabinet member for housing, said: "This type of accommodation is in short supply in Swindon and it is absolutely wonderful that work is underway to build these 11 adapted homes, which will transform the lives of the individuals and families who need them.
She added: "This is exactly the sort of project which delivers on our missions to Build a Fairer, Better and Greener Swindon."
The council is improving the road layout of Ventnor Close and has already created a new car park for residents near the new properties.
The homes will benefit from level access, off-road parking, fully-adapted wet rooms and kitchens, and will be wheelchair accessible throughout.
They will be allocated to families or individuals with complex physical health needs who require a property that is fully adapted.
Built with timber frames, all the homes will be ‘A’ rated with energy efficient measures such as air source heat pumps, solar panels and mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems.
