A new fish and chips shop is set to open today, run by the owners of another Swindon chippy.
Xana’s Fish Bar, replacing former favourite Phillip’s in Cricklade Road, promises an opening on May 31.
The shop already has a sister fryer, Monica’s, in St Andrew’s Ridge, and is owned by Joao De Freitas Franca.
Joao was not contactable for comment ahead of opening day, but Xana’s website says: “We have made a commitment to delivering the best fish and chips you can find.
“Monica’s, has been based at St Andrews Ridge, Swindon for many years and we are continuing our great reputation at Gorse Hill.
“We are renowned for the quality of our food and its fresh preparation.”
Monica’s came sixth in the Adver’s comprehensive ranking, with a Google rating of 4.5.

As well as cod, haddock, plaice and scampi, Xana’s will offer fried chicken, sausages, burgers, kebabs, pies, pasties and kids meals.
Xana’s Fish Bar is located at 39 Cricklade Road, Gorse Hill.
For more than two decades, people enjoyed the service of the Phillips family from the same building.
But in a post on Facebook in April, Joe Phillips confirmed his parents, Robin and Donna, were stepping away and the chippy once rated the best in Swindon was shutting.
Xana’s is open from 4-9pm from Monday to Thursday, 12 noon to 2pm and 4-9.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and is closed on Sundays and bank holidays.
