A Paralympic footballer has praised a group of school students for taking part in a scheme that saw them organise a community event.
The Year 8s from Highworth Warneford School who participated in the AQA Unlocking Potential Programme were commended by Jack Rutter.
The programme, which involved 120 students across England, encourages youngsters to learn new skills and to identify and solve problems in their school or community.
Mr Rutter, a former Team GB Paralympics football captain, provided mentorship to the students and said: "It has been brilliant to see the students use the skills they have been developing on the programme to deliver a superb social action project."
The event held at Southfield Junior School in Highworth promoted mental wellbeing and confidence and included rugby and football sessions and an outdoor music performance by a student rock band.
Highworth Warneford School headteacher, Andy Steele, said: "The event was really enjoyable and pupils from both schools had a great time.
"Our thanks must go to Jack Rutter who is an amazing mentor and role model. His amazing journey has been an inspiration to all the students.
"It has been a fantastic opportunity for them, and they have risen to the challenge and been great ambassadors for the school."
