Change is underway in Swindon town centre as new plans for a former Subway have been revealed.

The location at 42 Havelock Street, which is hidden just off Commercial Road, was formerly home to the food chain Subway until 2018, when it became Balkan’s Finest Hungarian food shop.

However, the property has been vacant since October 2023 when it was put up to let by Kilpatrick and Co for £14,000 a year.

Now, Binu Vezhaparambil Chacko hopes to bring the empty shop back to life as Swindon’s newest off-licence.

The 49-year-old hopes that his new business, named Real Supermarkets LTD, will include a food, alcohol and cigarettes shop on the 710 square foot site that will open from 8am to 9pm every day of the week.

But despite announcing his plans, no official opening date has been announced as of yet.

Although Mr Vezhaparambil Chacko is still eagerly awaiting the outcome of the licensing application, the public notice sellotaped to the windows makes it clear that change is coming at 42 Havelock Street.
