A suspected drunk driver pretended to be a passenger after getting into trouble with the police in the town centre.

Officers arrested a man on Station Road on Sunday evening on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink and failing to provide a sample of breath when required, then seized the motorist's vehicle due to a lack of insurance.

The Wiltshire force used the arrest as an example of what not to do when a police car flashes their blue lights behind you.

A spokesperson said: "You should pull over to the side of the road at the earliest available opportunity if the car can't get past - making sure it is safe to do so - avoid harsh braking, brows of hills or mounting a kerb near pedestrians.

"What you shouldn't do is stop and cause an obstruction whilst refusing to move fully out the way.

"You also shouldn't then, when the police car pulls alongside you, barrel roll into the back seat and try and put a seat belt on to pretend that you are a passenger.

"When asked to vacate your vehicle, you then shouldn't then refuse to which leads to a forcible removal and finally when asked for a sample of breath, you guessed it - don't refuse."

"No, we haven't made this up, and yup, all in a day's work."
