The reason a Wetherspoons pub in Swindon was closed for days has been explained by the owners.
The Savoy in the town centre was shut from 4pm on Saturday, June 1, reopening at 8am Tuesday, June 4.
During this time exiled visitors speculated about the cause, suggesting anything from broken music to the carpets being changed.
One person said: “Deep clean would be nice, especially the toilets.”
Another suggested an alternative solution to smelly toilets, asking if the loos were being moved further away.
Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon has now cleared the matter up.
He confirmed: “Some staff members had suspected illness.
“As a precaution the pub was closed from 4pm on Saturday, reopening at 8am Tuesday.
“During that time the pub was professionally cleaned.”
The Savoy ranks as the best Wetherspoon pub out of the three in Swindon, according to Tripadvisor reviews.
Reviews of the pub are mixed, with a score of 3.5, but many have praised the location as perfect for a quick and affordable bite to eat before seeing a show at the Wyvern Theatre.
One person said: “As "etherspoons go this one is not bad at all. Large and doesn't feel crowded.”
It ranked midway out of all of the 'Spoons' in Wiltshire, the top-ranked of which was The Bear in Melksham.
