A man who was reported as 'dancing half-naked' in Swindon on a Sunday afternoon was detained and taken to hospital.
On May 19, Wiltshire Police were called to reports of criminal damage and indecent exposure in Chapel Street in Swindon.
According to eye-witnesses at the scene, a man had been spotted at around 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon dancing in the street while naked from the waist down.
"I and quite a few other people saw the man whose behaviour suggested he might be drunk," one eye-witness told the Adver.
"He was dancing just a short distance from The Swiss Chalet pub and then proceeded to walk towards the public toilets, where he fell over onto the entrance of the car park and kicked his legs around before disappearing behind the toilet building."
When police officers arrived at the scene and attempted to detain the male, he reportedly began to shout expletives at officers, telling them repeatedly to "f*** off".
"The crazed screaming and swearing went on for about 20 minutes," added the eye-witness, who left the scene as another police car and a police van were arriving.
She noted that the man's shorts had been returned to him by this point.
Wiltshire Police has now confirmed that no arrests were made, but a man in his 20s was detained at the scene and taken to hospital.
"We responded to a report of criminal damage and indecent exposure in Chapel Street, Swindon, on May 19," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
"The subsequent investigation has been closed under outcome 12."
According to the Technical Annex for Crime Outcomes in England and Wales, Outcome 12 means that police were prevented from prosecuting due to ill health.
Although no further action has been taken, Gorse Hill locals have raised concerns about drink and drug habits in the area.
"Drinking and drug taking has become quite problematic in Gorse Hill, especially near to Saint Barnabas Church where waste from such activities has been found in the grounds," said Melanie Parsons.
"This is an utter disgrace."
The 2022 crime data for the town shows that Gorse Hill ranked 10th on a list of areas in Swindon with the most crime, with 608 crimes reported per year in Gorse Hill.
It should be noted that these figures do not reflect the most recent changes in crime, and only look at the crimes which were reported to police.
