A man who had been handcuffed managed to escape from police during his arrest.

Wiltshire Police officers noticed a vehicle being driven 'in a poor manner' on Hook Street, near Whitehall Way, on Friday evening.

They pulled the vehicle over, and arrested the driver, putting him in handcuffs.

But the man, in his 30s, was able to escape from the officers at the scene, sparking a manhunt in the area.

It has been reported that a police dog unit was called in and a drone was flown in search of the suspect, but they were not located in the area.

Despite the extensive search, and the fact the suspect had his arms restrained together, he was able to get roughly 5 miles away from where he escaped.

He was found later at an address in Marlowe Avenue, which was an hour and 37-minute walk from where he was initially pulled over.

He has been arrested for possession with intent to supply class B drugs, escaping from lawful custody and assaulting a police officer.

He remains in custody.
