The search for hidden weapons in Swindon continues.

Police have been searching for weapons, such as knives, that may have been stashed in public places within residential areas of Swindon after reports of anti-social behaviour.

On Monday, officers conducted weapons sweeps at St Andrews Ridge and Covingham Park, after reports from members of the public concerned with the behaviour of groups of youths.

And on Tuesday, more searches were carried out in the Cambria Bridge area.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers from Central South Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team were out and about in Cambria Bridge carrying out weapons sweeps in the area.

"The use of metal detectors by officers has proved to be successful in finding stashed weapons in thick undergrowth and shrubbery."

In another recent incident, two 'large knives' were found near Akers Way after a moped crashed at a roundabout on the road, and its two passengers fled from police

Last month permanent knife bins were installed around Wiltshire as part of Operation Sceptre, a two-week campaign to tackle knife crime in the county.
