Whether it's a strong start to a workday or at the end of a long night out, the full English breakfast remains a firm favourite.
With its many different parts, there is something for everyone and a lot of room for variation of contents and quality.
Some places dish up hash browns, some fried bread and others chips, while others might even give you tinned tomatoes instead of fried.
The English Breakfast Society traces the dish back to the 14th century, when the rich morning meal was eaten before a hunt to display the wealth and quality of their estates.
It was a very expensive, and it was only in the late 20th century that English breakfast got a reputation for being cheap and mainly fried.
Throughout history, everyone agrees that both quality and quantity matter when it comes to a fry-up; every mouthful should be delicious, and there should be plenty of them.
Swindon has a very high standard of cafes and restaurants selling breakfast, and the top spots demonstrate some of the variety on offer, from cheap and cheerful to top quality.
Each of the places has at least 100 Google reviews and advertises English breakfast as one of their main offerings. Prices are for large full English, but may sizes of servings might vary.
