Emergency services blocked part of a busy Swindon road at rush hour on Thursday morning.

Police, paramedics, and firefighters closed off Dorcan Way near the Messenger roundabout and diverted vehicles away from the area.

Witnesses saw a fire engine park outside a Nythe address and its ladder platform was used to reach the upper floor of one of the houses.

One ambulance and paramedic car stopped nearby and a stretcher was set up on the ground. The nature of the medical incident is not known.

A police car with two officers observed the scene and managed the passing traffic.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A crew and the aerial ladder platform from Swindon were called to Hazelbury Crescent at 7.52am on June 13 to assist our ambulance colleagues by moving a casualty from the first floor of a property.

"Our stop was in at 8.55am."

This caused some queues to form on streets leading away from the Messenger Roundabout, including Covingham Drive, as well as the turn onto Kingfisher Avenue from the mini-roundabout further along Dorcan Way.

The road reopened at around 9am and the congestion then began to as the flow of traffic returned to normal.
