A Swindon Indian restaurant has been crowned the best in its category in all of Wiltshire.

Kutting Chai is Wiltshire’s Best Indian Street Food Restaurant 2024 in Lux Life Magazine’s Food and Drink Awards.

The restaurant has previously won the Restaurant and Bar Awards Best Indian Street Food Restaurant, Wiltshire, 2023, MTM Good Food Award in 2020 and a Trip Advisor Travelers Choice award in 2022.

An article accompanying the award states: “Each bite promises to take diners’ tastebuds on a tantalising trip across the Bombay region, beginning with traditional recipes and cooking techniques and ending with over three decades of combined culinary experience.”

Kutting Chai opened in 2019, but due to demand it had to move to larger premises in Regent Circus in 2021.

It promises authentic Bombay Indian street food in its restaurant or by delivery.

The award continues: “The restaurant has not only presented the people of Swindon with the opportunity to immerse themselves in an inviting atmosphere, it also allows them to experience true Bombay tastes from their own homes.”

The award states that the restaurant has learned from the worldwide restaurant experience of new staff, who have trained at “reputable establishments across the globe”.

In 2019 the Adver reviewed the newly-opened restaurant.

The reporter found the food good value and flavoursome, stating: “The grub smells delicious. There’s a warmth from the spice that goes well with the sweet-salty tang of deep fried food.”

The positive review found the food “delicious” and “The Vada Pau is a revelation. A deep fried ball of potato or beans, essentially, it crunches down nicely. The garlic chutney adds a bit of flavour and the white roll is reassuringly soft.”

A set meal at the restaurant now costs £24. There are four options. One includes: two chicken makhani curry, house black dal, basmati rice, four roti or naan breads, four onion bhaji, pappadums, raita and mango chutney.

The restaurant has 4.2 stars out of 429 Google reviews.

One reviewer said: “Probably the best Indo/Nepalese food available in Swindon. A special shout out for the biryani and half chicken with garlic naan.

“The staff were always happy and willing to help, service was impeccable and the pricing was excellent.”

The restaurant owner, Aldred Rodrigues, recently opened another restaurant on Victoria Road, Tikka Tikka.
