Drivers of poorly-parked cars and vans have been given costly penalties and had their vehicles towed away by police.

On Friday evening, officers and Swindon Borough Council staff worked together to spot motorists that parked illegally around the town centre.

This followed the results of a survey of Broad Green residents that indicated that neighbours were particularly fed up of vehicles blocking pavements and alleyways.

Over the course of the evening, police stuck 13 parking tickets to front windows of vehicles that had been left on double yellow lines, gave out eight parking warning notices, and seized one car and one van.

They shared images of the seized vehicles online afterwards.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "Previously, warning notices have been given to offending vehicles and repeat offenders which are blocking alleys have had their vehicles seized."

If the vehicle is parked dangerously, on zig-zag lines, or in a way that would prevent emergency vehicles from accessing the route, report that to the police.

If it is parked over a dropped kerb, on a pedestrian crossing, in spaces reserved for Blue Badge holders or residents or motorbikes, in marked taxi bays, cycle lanes, on red lines, or near a school entrance or bus stop, tell the council.
