Large aircraft were spotted flying over Swindon and Wiltshire for the King’s birthday celebrations.

Pictures of the aircraft heading to and from Buckingham Palace for the King’s birthday flypast were shared by members of this newspaper’s Camera Club.

Tyron Daly shared pictures on June 15 of a United States Air Force (USAF) C-17 flying over Swindon.

He believed it to be heading to RAF Fairford from Tacoma, Washington.

The USAF C-17 is a large military transport aircraft. It commonly performs tactical and strategic airlift missions, transporting troops and cargo, and medical evacuation and airdrop duties.

Meanwhile, Nick Stinger Nett spotted an Airbus A400M Atlas at Everleigh.

The Atlas is a European four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft.

It was designed by Airbus Military, now Airbus Defence and Space, as a tactical airlifter with strategic capabilities.

The A400M is sized between the C-130 and the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III. It can carry heavier loads than the C-130 and can use rough landing strips.

The A400M can also perform aerial refueling and medical evacuation when fitted with appropriate equipment.

For the birthday flypast, three Chinooks, three Typhoon FGR4s, two Phenom & Texan T1s, a C-17 Globemaster, a Voyager & A400M Atlas, two Poseidon MRA1s, two RC135 Rivet Joints, four Typhoon FGR4s, three Hawk T2s, and four F-35B Lightnings were involved, in that order.
