The petrol station at a Swindon supermarket has temporarily closed.
Motorists heading to the Tesco Extra on Ocotal Way were surprised to see the fuel forecourt blocked off by cones and metal fencing on Friday morning.
Along with the usual steady stream of shoppers arriving at the largest Tesco in the area, several cars drove up to the entrance, noticed the closure and swiftly swivelled around the mini-roundabout to go back the way they came and leave.
Behind the fencing, there are two movable raised platforms and other equipment.
Signs indicate that improvement work is being carried out on the refuelling area that will last for several days.
The exact nature of what these improvements will be is unclear.
The pumps will remain inaccessible until Friday, June 28.
Until then, drivers are advised that Tesco’s nearest supermarket with a petrol station on-site is the Cricklade Road branch in Cirencester.
Closer petrol stations can be found at the Great Western Way Applegreen, the Esso on Fleming Way near the Magic Roundabout, and the BP garage near BMW on Bridge End Road.
