An attempted murder probe has been launched after a pensioner found unconscious outside a Swindon house died in hospital.

In the early hours of Friday (June 21) police officers and forensic investigation teams cordoned off a house on Overbrook, near Eldene Drive, where a man in his 70s was discovered unconscious.

He has since died in hospital and his next of kin have been informed. It is understood that detectives are keeping an open mind about the circumstances.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on bail.

A person in white protective clothing and a mask was seen taking photos inside the property on Friday as police spent the day at the scene.

Detective Inspector Penny Andrews said: “Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s relatives at this difficult time.

“We are actively investigating the circumstances and keeping an open mind about what may have taken place. We need to hear from anyone who was in the area on Friday night and may have seen anything suspicious.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have driven past and have dash cam footage or nearby householders who may have doorbell camera recordings.”
