A Swindon couple married in a nearby brewery after making a special request to the management team.
Robert Sawyer, 50, and Joanne Lees. 56. first met 10 years ago and wanted to wed in a small ceremony and searched high and low for a suitable venue, but without success.
So, they approached the proprietor of Broadtown Brewery and Hop Gardens, which is between Royal Wootton Bassett and Wroughton, to ask if the brewery could apply for a license that would allow it to host civil ceremonies.
The brewery’s team agreed and soon got to work to send in the application, which was later approved.
Earlier this month, the happy couple tied the knot in a new chapel set up specially for people to mark this momentous milestone in their lives.
While the hour-and-a-half-long ceremony took place, punters refreshed themselves at a pop-up bar set up outside, then the couple had exclusive access to the old brewhouse and courtyard for the rest of the afternoon.
Mother of the bride Patricia Lees said: "They were introduced by our hairdresser who, having known Rob for some years felt they would be a good match. How right she was.
“Robert and Joanne are the first couple to be married there and the proprietors Jason and Vincenza Bayliffe and the wedding coordinator Louise did everything they could to ensure a fabulous day was had by all who attended.
“It was a wonderful occasion and everyone enjoyed thoroughly themselves.
“We want show our thanks to Jason for facilitating the wedding venue and hopefully show other couples that a small ceremony can be beautiful.”
Joanna Lees added: “Rob and I feel very privileged to have had the first wedding at Broad Town Brewery. With thanks to all involved with the venue, decor and hosting our special day. A stunning location and ideal venue for a smaller wedding.”
The brewery has since hosted its second civil ceremony and been inundated with enquiries from other potential newlyweds.
A spokesperson for the brewery said: "On June 1, 2024, we hosted our very first civil ceremony/
"It was a magical day, and although we love our little venue, the people that attended brought it alive. We are so pleased everyone had the best day.
"If you're looking for a wonderfully bespoke and intimate ceremony, then look no further than our Hop Chapel.
"We take bookings for all seasons and we look forward to you coming down, and taking in the ambients of our little Hop Chapel."
