The following cases were heard in Swindon’s courts earlier this week.

MOTORWAY: Anthony Cole, of Gascelyn Close in Chippenham, has been sentenced for drug driving.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Master along Junction 15 of the M4 on January 5, 2024, while having 2.3 micrograms of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and 240 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine per litre of blood in his system.

He has been banned from driving for 12 months, fined £350, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs plus £140 to fund victim services.

RODBOURNE CHENEY: Louie Matthews, of Northern Road, has been sentenced for possessing weapons in public.

The 22-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to having a pocket knife with a blade of more than three inches long as well as a knuckle duster in Swindon on June 8, 2024.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days.

The weapons have been forfeited and destroyed.

The defendant must pay £85 in court costs plus £114 to fund victim services.

WALCOT: Kelsie Batsford, of Upham Road, has been sentenced for drink driving.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Clio along The Square in Swindon on June 9, 2024, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in her breath, namely 47 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit.

She received a 14-month driving ban and must pay a fine of £392 along with £85 in court costs plus £157 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: Patrick Weatherly, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced for three offences.

The 48-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to stealing a £174.90 Makita angle grinder which belonged to Swindon Borough Council from a vehicle on October 20, 2023, and having diamorphine and crack cocaine while in Swindon on June 11, 2024.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out six months of drug rehabilitation treatment and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days as well as pay £174.90 in compensation.

The angle grinder and Class A drugs have been forfeited and destroyed.

MOTORWAY: Athar Shah, of Mogden Lane in Hounslow, has been sentenced for speeding.

The 44-year-old drove an Audi A4 along the motorway near Swindon at more than 70mph on August 16, 2023.

The defendant received six penalty points on his driving licence and must pay a fine of £180 plus £90 in court costs and £72 to fund victim services.

BLUNSDON: Alex Aurelio, of Ermin Street in Blunsdon, has been sentenced for driving offences.

The 49-year-old drove a Nissan Cabstar along Great Western Way on June 15, 2023, without a valid licence or insurance, and while the weight, position or distribution of its load was such that its use involved a danger of injury to others.

He must pay fines totalling £1,100 as well as £90 in court costs plus £440 to fund victim services, and has been banned from driving for six months.

STRATTON ST MARGARET: Richard Eyden, of Whitelands Road, has been sentenced for speeding.

The 35-year-old drove a BMW 330E along the A419 near Crickalde at more than 70mph on August 20, 2023.

He received six penalty points on his driving licence and must pay a fine of £1,000 along with £90 in court costs plus £400 to fund victim services.
