A man claiming to be a gardener reportedly gained entry to a resident’s house during a “suspicious incident”.

Police have since issued a warning urging Swindon residents in Lower Stratton to be on their guard.

At around lunchtime on June 26, a man attended an address on Hill View Road and gained entry to the house after speaking to the occupant.

He allegedly claimed to be a gardener, but had no uniform or ID.

The man claimed the resident had called him that morning, but when she told him she hadn’t and challenged him he walked off in the direction of Whilestone Way.

Officers have urged people to make their elderly or vulnerable neighbours aware of the situation and have also asked anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We are urging residents in the Lower Stratton area to be vigilant following a suspicious incident last week.

“We’d urge residents to be mindful, and would also urge anyone reading this to make their elderly or vulnerable neighbours or relatives aware.

“Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54240075349.”
