Farmers at nearby Roves Farm had quite a dramatic night and morning after one of their calves needed to be born via caesarean section.
Staff at the popular visitor attraction in Sevenhampton had been attending to its pregnant Sussex cows when one of them started having issues giving birth in the early hours of the morning.
They discovered that the calf was very large and made the decision to call in a vet to perform a caesarean section via torchlight.
A spokesperson for the farm said: "Here is our latest calf born by torchlight in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
"The calf was a bit of a chunk and was born by caesarean section, a very rare occurrence for us, being only the third we have ever had on the farm.
"Both mum and calf are doing well."
The c-section was performed while the mother cow was standing.
One member of the public asked if cows are put to sleep for the procedure, but the spokesperson added: "No, a local anaesthetic is given by the vet at the incision site. Once this is in effect, the section is done and the calf is delivered."
The farm had 18 Sussex cows due to calf within a month of each other, with the first arriving on June 19.
