After all the arguing, claim and counter-claim, the canvassing and the leaflets the general election campaign finishes on polling day.
And voters in Swindon will be voting in one of three constituencies after a redrawing of the boundaries mandated by the Conservative government: Swindon North, Swindon South and East Wiltshire.
(Because both Swindon constituencies are now considered ‘borough’ seats so the geographic designator comes second. Because East Wiltshire is a rural ‘county’ constituency the compass pint comes first.) Many people who work in Swindon but who live just outside it in towns and villages such as Minety, Purton, and Cricklade are in the newly created South Cotswolds seat along with Cirencester.
There are seven candidates standing for the Swindon North Constituency.
In alphabetical order they are: Andy Bentley for the Green Party, Flo Clucas for the Liberal Democrats, Debbie Hicks an Independent candidate, Scott Victor Abbas Hunter for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, Will Stone for the Labour Party, Justin Tomlinson for the he Conservative Party and Les Willis for Reform UK.
In Swindon South there are six candidates. They are: Heidi Alexander for Labour Party, Robert Buckland for the Conservative Party, Martin Costello an Independent candidate, Roderick George Hebden for the Green Party, Catherine Kosidowski for Reform UK and Matthew David McCabe for the Liberal Democrats.
Both seats have been held by Conservative MPs, Justin Tomlinson in Swindon North and Robert Buckland in Swindon South since 2010.
Voters in southern, more rural areas of Swindon borough; in Wanborough, Wroughton, Wichelstowe and Chiseldon have been moved from the old South Swindon seat into the new seat of East Wiltshire following the Boundary Commission redrawing the seats.
The candidates standing there are: the True and Fair Party candidate Pete Force-Jones, Liberal Democrat candidate David Kinnaird, Conservative candidate Danny Kruger, Labour candidate Rob Newman, Reform candidate Stephen Talbot and The Green Party candidate, Emily Herbert.
In the newly created South Cotswolds constituency, the candidates are: Zoë Billingham of the Labour Party, Martin John of the Social Democratic Party, Bob Eastoe of the Green Party, James Whiteside Gray of the Conservative Party, Owen Humphrys an Independent, Desi Latimer of Reform UK, Roz Savage of the Liberal Democrats, Sandy Steel an Independent and Chris Twells of the Liberal Party.
Polls open at 7am on Thursday July 4 and close at 10pm.
