After the Swindon North MP was announced just after 2am, independent candidate Debbie Hicks shouted into the microphone and appeared to be pulled away from the podium.

Labour candidate Will Stone won the Swindon North constituency seat with 40.6 per cent of the vote, equating to 17,930 votes, dethroning Conservative MP Justin Tomlinson.

After Mr Stone and Mr Tomlinson had made their speeches and shared a heartfelt hug, the candidates were leaving the stage.

But Debbie Hicks took the opportunity to run up to the microphone and shout “Prepare for World War. It’s coming. You won’t be laughing when it’s your children drafted in.”

Ms Hicks, who had a 0.6 per cent share of the votes, with 260 votes in total, appeared to be pulled away from the podium, as reported by the local Democracy Service.

The 49-year-old teacher was convicted in 2022 of public order offences relating to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Covid-19 regulations.

Speaking to our Local Democracy Reporter last week, she said: “The lockdowns and other restrictions were some of the greatest restrictions of our rights and freedoms since the Second World War.

"And I’m proud of my activism, I think I’ve been vindicated now.”
