It may have been a rainy Saturday in July, but that did not stop the people of Wroughton from bringing the party.
Wroughton Carnival 2024 took to the streets in style on Saturday (July 6) with stalls, costumes and great entertainment in celebration of the carnival's 99th year.
Held around the Weir Field from noon, this year's carnival offered 60 different stalls selling gifts, jewellery and more along with 10 food stalls offering food from around the world.
The energy reached its height during the hour-long parade featuring floats, creative costumes, dancers and gymnasts set off from the Fox and Hounds pub and make their way around the village on Swindon's outskirts.
Around 30 Harley-Davidsons led the procession, and a huge range of local groups and businesses were on display.
The colourful parade was followed by other fantastic entertainment including live bands, a dog show, gymnastic displays, circus skills and more.
"A busy and slightly soggy day at Wroughton Carnival but lovely to see everyone and we hope you enjoyed the vintage police cars from our memorial fleet," said a statement from Swindon North, East and Rural Police officers, who attended the carnival.
Committee member Louise May added: “Wroughton has a very strong and active community that has kept this long tradition going while a lot of other villages stopped having carnivals.
“We’re already thinking about the theme for the 100th anniversary next year.”
