The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates Court last week.

RODBOURNE: Rocky Almeida, of Cornwall Avenue, has been sentenced for driving offences and theft.

The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent on January 4, 2024, then driving it along Thamesdown Drive without insurance or a valid licence, causing damage to it in an accident, and failing to provide a breath sample to police when required to do so as part of an investigation into whether he had committed an offence.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days in the next 12 months.

The defendant has also been banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 in court costs.

TOWN CENTRE: Romulus-Valentin Verdeata, of Westcott Place, has been sentenced for three offences.

The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause a man in Swindon on March 11, 2024, to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against him.

He also admitted to causing a £300 of criminal damage to a glass pane belonging to his victim and £35 of criminal damage to a holding bay area on the same date.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out nine months of alcohol treatment and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days, as well as pay £335 in compensation along with £85 in court costs.

GORSE HILL: Harry Gillett, of Argyle Street, has been sentenced for criminal damage.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to damaging a hair dryer at the Power Lounge on March 13, 2024.

He must pay a £76 fine along with £85 in court costs plus £30 to fund victim services.

TOWN CENTRE: Paul Jones, of Harding Street, has been sentenced for burglary.

The 48-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to trespassing into a Swindon garage and stealing a pushbike and accessories worth a total of £395 on June 30, 2023.

He received a community order that requires him to pay £395 in compensation as well as carry out up to 15 rehabilitation activity days.

WALCOT: Carlos Fernandez, of Marlowe Avenue, has been sentenced for three offences.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a car in Swindon without due care and attention on June 7, 2024, then resisting a female police constbale in the execution of her duty on the same day and failed without reasonable cause to surrender to custody at Gablecross Police Station on June 26 having been released on bail in criminal proceedings on June 8.

He received four penalty points on his driving licence and must pay fines of £80 and £166 as well as £85 in court costs plus £66 to fund victim services.

MOTORWAY: Shamari Kelly, of Townmead Road in London, has been sentenced for driving offences.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a BMW along Junction 15 eastbound near Membury Services without due care and attention while disqualified and without insurance on February 8. 2024, then failing to provide a breath sample to police when required to do so as part of an investigation into whether they had committed an offence.

The defendant received a community order that requires her to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and up to 20 rehabilitation activity days in the next 12 months, and has been banned from driving for 36 months and ordered to pay £85 in court costs plus £115 to fund victim services.
