Pubs and clubs in Swindon town centre have been reminded by police to make sure they are ID-ing people.

Officers from Wiltshire Police were patrolling on Saturday evening and throughout the night.

The force provided an update on this on their Facebook page, and revealed there have been some recent issues surrounding people's IDs not being checked correctly at licensed premises.

As a result, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson explained security staff were reminded to check.

"PC Smith has been speaking to security staff about the importance of checking people’s identifications and making sure they are over the legal age limit to be drinking alcohol," they said.

"PC Smith has also been speaking to members of the public during the night about the ‘Walk Away campaign’, which is focused on people walking away from any potential conflicts or fights that may arise and the dangers one punch can have."

The spokesperson added: "The public are reminded that we want you to have a good but safe night out and it is always better to walk away from any incidents."
