A new play area has opened in the Swindon borough.
An excited group of children rushed through the newly-cut ribbon to be the first to try out the inclusive site on Northview Field in Highworth over the weekend while their parents sat on the grass with picnic baskets in the sunshine.
Highworth Town Council officially opened the outdoor leisure facility, joined by Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Muhammad Ali, who said: “I congratulate the council on such a magnificent play area, what an achievement, and how marvellous to see the children enjoying themselves.”
North Swindon MP Will Stone was happy to be part of his first official opening as the area’s new Parliamentary representative.
He said: “I’m very impressed with the town council’s efforts to build such a wonderfully inclusive play area.
“It can be a focal point which families will travel to and will be a boon to the lovely town of Highworth.”
Anna Bird from Mum’s on a Mission helped the council create the play area, adding that “although I’m a Swindonian, I’ll definitely be bringing the family to Highworth now”.
Mayor of Highworth Julie Murphy congratulated the play area committee and thanked staff from the town’s Aldi for providing sweets and refreshments, Halo Liesure for donating a prize to the scavenger hunt winner, and Wiltshire Police for bringing a patrol car and other activities.
