A pub with rooms near Swindon is set to relaunch after appointing a new owner.
Tom Downing, who has worked with celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, moved to The Five Alls in Filkins, not far from Lechlade, in February.
Since taking over, Tom has overseen the refurbishment of the pub’s nine rooms and public spaces, and he is working to reestablish the venue’s reputation for excellent dining and warm hospitality.
The Five Alls’ nine bedrooms have been given a refresh and are decorated in a neutral palette with pops of colour.
Tom is working on a new partnership with Bibury Trout Farm to create a tasting menu with produce from within a 20-mile radius, alongside regular events like a monthly pub quiz night, a harvest fair and live music from villagers.
In addition, he has teamed up with Filkins’ village hall to offer special family days.
Newly-appointed head chef Lucian Juganaru, meanwhile, is ensuring that his seasonally-changing à la carte and set menus celebrate the best seasonal ingredients found locally and from around the UK - including fresh daily fish deliveries from Brixham in Devon.
Starting out as a trainee manager at The Grand in Brighton in East Sussex, Tom worked his way up to food and beverage manager after five years.
For the next two years, he worked with Marco Pierre White to open country pubs and inns in the south of England, before moving on to the Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
Two years later, he took on the running of a private members’ club and restaurant in Covent Garden, London, owned by Jason Hunt of the Crazy Bear Group.
He later moved to Stadhampton in Oxfordshire to run the Crazy Bear there for seven years.

“With over 15 years’ industry experience, Robert’s attention to detail and guest care is exemplary, and with his help, we’ll be providing a well-trained team who genuinely care and enjoy working at The Five Alls and have the ability to deliver guest satisfaction and value for money.”
