The Swindon section of the M4 is scheduled to close in August while electrical works are completed.

National Highways will close the westbound road from junction 15 to 16 from 9pm on Thursday, August 1, to 2am on Friday, August 2.

Overnight traffic must take a diversion via the A419, A4259 and A3102 to the M4 junction 16.

Meanwhile, nearly a dozen Swindon roads will close over the next month as part of a major roadworks scheme.

Swindon Borough Council has announced nine locations will benefit from a £4 million maintenance programme being carried out during the summer holidays.

These improvement works will include essential resurfacing of the routes, and form part of the council’s annual major and minor road resurfacing programme.

The programme focuses on fixing deteriorating road surfaces across the borough and has already seen work on Tadpole Lane and Thamesdown Drive in July.

Throughout the rest of July and August, Hook Street, Inverary Road, Ferndale Road, Gooch Street, Huntley Close, Markham Close, Dawlish Road, Shakespeare Path, and Boscombe Road will undergo similar roadworks.

The first three roads selected will be shut between 8am and 6pm on the days that work is scheduled to take place.

Daytime closures will also be utilised at the remaining sites.
